The trapper-turned-underground-phenom is championed by rap purists for his technical precision and street-oriented rhymes. I'm not saying he's the best lyricist, but his flow is pretty fun to listen to, same goes for his style of storytelling. He doesn't have any lines about how he'll kill these rappers. Definitely a must-listen for anyone getting into hip-hop. In most people's minds, Madvillainy is an untouchable classic, and Piñata may not be that, but it's so far the most enjoyable hip-hop album of 2014, and probably as close as we'll ever get to a Madvillainy sequel.
You can tell the progression on the record, though. Awards and achievements Freddie Gibbs came into the music world since 2006, and till now he has worked several record labels. I was, then I wasn't. For example, there are barely any hooks structured like the ones on Piñata elsewhere in Gibbs entire career. I didn't have to tell him, but that's what he wanted to record. It also feels a little dated, because Madlib has been practicing this kind of project for a decade — alongside similarly independent-minded artists like J Dilla and Doom. In the year 2006, Freddie signed a contract with Interscope records.
Mad respect to everybody who was involved with creating this music, you guys really did a number here. The beats were too trappy I guess? The high points of the album are found in these poignant moments of vulnerability. It was little four-year-old kids hitting dope in piñatas. I had a dream, dog, that I had a little baby. Even when a beat has you almost drifting into space i mean this in a great way , Gibbs is able to catch your ear because of his delivery and aggressiveness. Freddie Gibbs has his own website where he announced that he is going to part of the Chip Tha Ripper of Cleveland in the year 2011. The sprawling, luscious soundscape seemed to spark a newfound focus in Gibbs as he explored uncharted territory—both sonically and topically—tapping further into his introspective side and providing a more nuanced self-portrait beyond the cold-blooded gangster and pimp.
It's also a new benchmark for Gibbs and may end up as a career calling card. At , which assigns a rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream publications, the album received an score of 82, based on 19 reviews. Gibbs has also been charged with legal issues that it did little to hamper his popularity. I would add little things, like these choruses. I don't have time to sit there and coach somebody that just already knows what to do, and that's the kind of people I usually work with… I don't want to sit there like a babysitter. Extra points are added for being a peerless success while still giving fans of Mobb Deep, Slum Village, Young Buck, Odd Future, and David Banner enough familiar touchstones for easy access.
I don't regret shit, but I'll show you the things I'm not proud of. The album also has a relaxing Cali song for open car window weather. You know I like Latina girls and shit, man. You listened to his to his projects. The cover art features Gibbs wearing a black tracksuit and hanging out in a neighborhood park, with a zebra print border surrounding the image.
Nothing feels out of place. Then there's the guest list, which is varied as it is eye-catching, with two members of Odd , young emcees such as Mac Miller and Meechy Darko, old standard-bearers Raekwon and Scarface and wonderful weirdos and all showing up for verses. I must've been cooking some dope or some shit that week, because the nigga started hitting the piñata, and it wasn't shit but dope falling out the piñata. Gibbs as also faced certain legal issues. The drug and the crime shit really deteriorated our community - my community, at least. And that is a compliment indeed. It features stars like Young Jeezy, Freeway, Don Kennedy and also Juicy J.
I guess I've been spoiled with this album. Other beats are interesting enough to carry rhymes about how people from more privileged backgrounds have the same vices as people from the hood. This mixtape consisted of various tracks that were unreleased. Hearing Face close out Broken fucks me up. I want to say all of my girls speak Spanish and shit.
Piñata was preceded by three including 2011 , 2012 and 2013. Gibbs flows masterfully over every beat Madlib throws at him seemingly without breaking a sweat. Describing the process as challenging at first, Gibbs chocks up the refinement of his own writing process to the opportunity to mix it up with one of the masters, eventually resulting in a bonafide classic. Piñata is Madlib's best collaborative album since cult classic Madvillainy, and it might be Gibbs' best work yet. Archived from on March 30, 2014.
In the year 2014, Gibbs released another album known as Pinata, and he was assisted by Madlib who is a producer. A follow-up second album, titled Bandana, is slated for a 2019 release. Madlib gives Gibbs enough high tempo moments to slash through, but he also slows it down at times so that Gibbs can just speak his mind in a more conversational tone. I want to say the same thing for Gibbs but I've never listened to another album of his the whole way through. Piñata, a 17 track collaboration with producer Madlib, is the best distillation yet of his transparent approach to making music, combining an at times stark honesty with electrifying talent as a lyricist and performer. Even in the presence of noted prodigy , Gibbs shines the brightest on the track, letting us know once again that this is his album. It has more of a human feel, so it might slow down or speed up.
